Gold and silver, as highly watched precious metals in the global market, are driven by multiple factors such as inflation data, the US dollar cycle, and geopolitical situations, resulting in price fluctuations that differ significantly from other assets. For investors participating in CFD trading of London gold, international silver, and other similar products, understanding the logic behind transaction costs and being familiar with the functional limitations of platform tools are prerequisites for developing a sound trading plan. This article starts with the basics of precious metals trading, outlines several core aspects that traders need to focus on daily, and provides an objective introduction to the functional configuration of the ACE Markets platform.
I. What are the components of the cost of precious metal CFDs?
Many people who are new to precious metals trading tend to only look at the spread, but in reality, the complete transaction cost usually includes three parts.
The spread is the difference between the buying and selling price, and it's the first cost you encounter when opening a position. In normal market conditions, the spread for gold offered by major brokers is typically between $0.1 and $0.5, but it can widen significantly during major events such as the release of non-farm payroll data. Regarding commissions, different platforms and account types have significantly different fee structures. Some use a "zero commission + wide spread" model, while others use a combination of "low spread + commission." Traders need to combine these two factors when comparing costs. Overnight interest is the fee or income incurred when holding a position overnight. Essentially, it's the interest rate difference between the two currencies involved in the position. Most platforms charge three times the overnight interest on Wednesdays to cover weekend costs.
ACE Markets has implemented several cost transparency measures. The platform offers three account types: GOLD, EMERALD, and PLATINUM, with a minimum deposit of $1,000. The trading panel displays estimated swap fees and transaction fees in real-time before opening a position, and daily spreads and overnight holding fees are published during the holding period. This upfront cost disclosure helps traders who need to plan medium- to long-term strategies to more accurately estimate holding costs.
II. Why Execution Efficiency is Worth Paying Attention To
Spreads and commissions are the visible costs, but the impact of execution efficiency on actual trading results is equally significant.
Order execution speed, the time interval between order placement and confirmation, is particularly critical in fast-moving markets—prices can fluctuate significantly every second, and delays can result in orders being executed at unfavorable prices. Slippage, on the other hand, is the difference between the expected execution price and the actual execution price. It can be either favorable or unfavorable, and its magnitude is directly related to the platform's liquidity provider network, order execution model, and market depth.
ACE Markets compresses spreads by aggregating liquidity providers. The platform offers three account types: GOLD, EMERALD, and PLATINUM, with a maximum leverage ratio of 1:500. It's important to note that high leverage amplifies both positive and negative price fluctuations, necessitating continuous position management during the holding period.
III. How Market Data Tools and Order Systems Work Together with Trading Strategies
Short-term fluctuations in the precious metals market are often rapid and significant, and the ability to synchronize market data directly impacts the accuracy of traders' judgments. If there is a delay in market updates, there may be discrepancies between planned entry or exit points and actual trades.
ACE Markets' precious metals trading platform integrates real-time international market data streams, covering major commodities such as London Gold and International Silver. The platform uses MetaTrader 5 (MT5) as its core trading terminal, and account data is interconnected across PC, web, and mobile devices, allowing traders to continuously view market data and positions across different devices.
In terms of the order system, the ACE Markets trading terminal supports multiple order types for precious metals, including market orders, limit orders, and risk control orders such as take-profit, stop-loss, and trailing stop-loss. Short-term traders can use market orders for quick entry and exit, while swing traders can use limit orders to pre-set entry and exit points, eliminating the need for prolonged monitoring. For position management, the platform supports operations such as modifying stop-loss and take-profit parameters, partial closing of positions, and batch order management.
In addition, ACE Markets supports exporting complete trading reports. The account interface displays information such as net worth, margin, available funds, and floating profit and loss in a clear and intuitive way, making it easier for traders to conduct post-trade review.
IV. Weekend Position Holding and Risk Control Alert Mechanism
There are some easily overlooked time points to pay attention to in precious metals trading. ACE Markets' London Gold and Silver trading sessions continue until 04:55 on Saturday during summer time and until 05:55 on Saturday during winter time. The platform has different margin requirements for regular trading hours and weekends—a forced liquidation standard of 30% or less is used during regular hours, while a margin requirement of 200% or less is used on weekends. This means that if you plan to hold orders until the weekend, you need to pay extra attention to the overall margin requirement of your account, rather than just looking at the profit or loss of a single order.
The platform's accompanying margin warning and forced liquidation alert functions can provide risk alerts when there are significant changes in the account's net value, making it easier for traders to adjust their positions or replenish funds in a timely manner.
summary
Precious metals trading involves multiple dimensions, including cost structure, execution efficiency, tool usage, and risk management, each of which impacts the trading experience. ACE Markets' features in the precious metals CFD market—from cost options for three account types to multi-terminal synchronized market data tools, and order management and risk control alerts—provide traders with an operational framework that can support various trading strategies. These tools themselves cannot replace traders' independent market judgment, but they can help traders more efficiently translate their market understanding into concrete trade execution.
