The requirements for trading platforms in gold and silver differ subtly from those in forex or stock indices. Precious metals prices are driven by a triple force: macroeconomic data, geopolitical events, and industrial demand. Volatility often concentrates within specific timeframes, placing more specific demands on order execution efficiency, cost transparency, and weekend risk management rules. This article, based on the actual use cases of precious metals traders, outlines the functional configurations of ACE Markets in terms of trading tools, cost structures, and account rules, providing a reference for readers evaluating their trading environment.
I. Coverage of Precious Metals and Contract Specifications
ACE Markets offers trading access to precious metal CFDs via MetaTrader 5, with core pairs including Gold/USD (XAU/USD) and Silver/USD (XAG/USD). Gold often attracts significant attention during periods of rising inflation expectations, changes in real interest rates, and increased geopolitical uncertainty. Silver, on the other hand, possesses both precious metal attributes and industrial demand, resulting in different price drivers and volatility characteristics compared to gold. Offering both pairs side-by-side allows traders to easily observe the gold-silver price ratio within a single account or to perform rotational trading.
Regarding contract specifications, according to publicly available information, ACE Markets' minimum transaction size for London Gold and London Silver is 0.01 lots, and the maximum is 10 lots, with no upper limit on the total number of lots held. This micro-lot size setting is practically significant for precious metals traders who need to precisely control their risk exposure per trade, especially during periods of increased market volatility around the time of non-farm payroll data releases or Federal Reserve interest rate decisions. It allows for greater flexibility in initiating trades with small positions or building positions in batches.
II. Order Management and Analysis Tools under MT5 Terminal
ACE Markets uses MetaTrader 5 as its sole trading platform, accessible via desktop, web, and mobile devices. MT5 offers order types covering common execution needs in precious metals trading: market orders for immediate entry, limit orders for placing orders at preset prices, and stop-loss and take-profit orders for managing position risk and locking in profits. It's important to note that stop-loss orders are not guaranteed to execute at the set price in extreme market conditions; this is also stated in ACE Markets' disclosures and is a common characteristic of CFD trading.
In terms of chart analysis, MT5 includes a variety of technical indicators and drawing tools. Traders can save chart templates and switch between gold and silver charts for reuse. For users who prefer to track the correlation between gold and silver, the multi-chart layout feature allows for side-by-side observation of the price movements of XAU/USD and XAG/USD within the same interface, reducing the operational costs of repeatedly switching between instruments. Furthermore, MT5 supports the deployment and operation of Expert Advisors (EAs), allowing traders who need automated strategy execution to load and configure EAs within the platform.
III. Transaction Cost Structure and Account Model Selection
Profit margins in precious metals trading depend not only on price judgments but also directly on the cumulative effect of spreads, commissions, and overnight interest. ACE Markets offers various account types with different cost structures: Standard accounts do not charge commissions, and trading costs are primarily reflected in spreads; Professional and Plain Spread accounts use a lower spread plus a fixed commission model. This tiered design means traders need to assess which structure best suits their trading frequency—short-term, high-frequency traders are more sensitive to spreads, while medium- to long-term holders need to include overnight interest in their cost calculations.
Regarding overnight interest rates, holding precious metal CFD positions overnight incurs funding costs or gains, with specific rates varying depending on the asset and direction. For traders planning to hold gold as a hedging tool over the medium term, the cumulative impact of overnight interest rates should not be ignored. It is recommended to check the applicable overnight interest rate in the MT5 contract specifications before establishing a position and incorporate it into the overall holding cost considerations.
IV. Weekend Position Holding Rules: An Easily Overlooked Risk Control Node
The precious metals market closed early Saturday morning Beijing time and reopened early Monday morning. Traders holding positions over the weekend need to be aware of the potential for price gaps and changes in account rules. ACE Markets uses different margin requirements for regular trading hours and weekends: during regular hours, the liquidation threshold is triggered when the margin requirement drops to a lower level, while this threshold is significantly higher on weekends. This means that if an account holds positions until the close on Friday, the platform's requirements regarding the ratio of account equity to used margin will be stricter than on weekdays.
For traders who habitually maintain gold or silver positions on Fridays, this rule difference needs to be incorporated into their pre-weekend account review process. Specifically, they can check their MT5 account's margin ratio near the close on Friday, combining this with their current open positions and pending orders to determine if partial closing or position adjustments are necessary. This is to avoid unexpected account actions triggered by the weekend rule change. The weekend closing time for London gold and silver varies depending on daylight saving time (Summer Time) and standard time (Standard Time). It ends at 04:55 on Saturday, while it ends at 05:55 on Saturday. Traders should pay attention to the corresponding times based on their time zone.
V. General Understanding of Account Security and Withdrawal Process
ACE Markets Limited holds a derivatives issuer license issued by the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) of New Zealand, license number FSP703051. According to its product disclosure statement, client funds are held in client trust accounts at the Bank of New Zealand, separate from the company's own funds. For withdrawals, electronic transfers are the standard channel; specific processing times are subject to information displayed by platform customer service or the account backend.
It's important to clarify that ACE Markets provides execution-only services and does not offer personal investment advice or trading recommendations. This means the platform's role is to provide trading access and tools; the actual trading decisions, position management, and risk control for gold and silver are entirely the responsibility of the trader. For precious metals traders, the transparency of the platform's functions and the verifiability of its rules are far more valuable than any form of "recommendation."
VI. Summary of Functional Adaptation for Precious Metals Traders
From the perspective of the actual precious metals trading process, ACE Markets' functional configuration is noteworthy in several aspects: the MT5 terminal provides a mature chart analysis and order management framework; multiple account types offer cost structure options for traders with different trading frequencies; and the clear disclosure of weekend prepayment rules makes the risk of holding positions over the weekend calculable and manageable. These elements together constitute a tool environment that allows for independent operation, rather than a trading plan with directional guidance.
For users choosing a precious metals trading platform, it is recommended to focus on details directly related to their trading rhythm: whether frequently traded instruments are on the tradable list, whether the cost structure of the account type matches the holding period, and whether the rules before and after weekends or major data releases are clearly available. ACE Markets provides a verifiable information base in the above dimensions, but whether it is ultimately suitable depends on each trader's own strategy characteristics and risk tolerance framework.
